Convert Filament weight to Filament length — 3D Printing
Assumptions: Defaults: PLA density 1.24 g/cm³, 1.75 mm diameter. Per material: PETG ≈1.27, ABS ≈1.04, TPU ≈1.21 g/cm³. For 2.85 mm filament grams-per-meter is ~2.65× higher.
Formula
length(m) = grams ÷ 2.9825 (PLA, 1.75 mm ⇒ ≈2.98 g per meter)
Why this matters in 3d printing
Estimate how much filament a spool holds or a print used. A 1 kg PLA spool at 1.75 mm is roughly 335 m.
Filament weight to Filament length reference table (for PLA at 1.75 mm)
| Filament weight (g) | Filament length (m) |
|---|---|
| 100 | 33.5 |
| 200 | 67.1 |
| 250 | 83.8 |
| 500 | 167.6 |
| 750 | 251.5 |
| 1,000 | 335.3 |
