Frequently asked questions
What is chronological age?
The time elapsed since birth, expressed as completed years, months, and days. It is the age used on forms, in school-entry cutoffs, and in clinical assessments, as opposed to biological or developmental age.
How are the months counted?
Calendar arithmetic with borrowing: count whole years first, then whole calendar months, then leftover days. Because months differ in length, 'X months, Y days' can differ slightly between two people born the same number of days apart.
Do leap years affect my age?
Only in the day count. Someone born February 29 legally ages on March 1 in most jurisdictions in non-leap years; this calculator counts their birthday as February 29 when it exists.
How do I calculate age at a past or future date?
Set the second field ('age on date') to any date, for example a test date or a school cutoff, instead of leaving it on today.
